Motor Row Historic District - II

In the Motor Row Historic District, I saw not only beautiful automobile showrooms [now converted into loft condominiums] .. but also many cultural hallmarks that reminds of it's proximity to the elite Prairie Avenue Historic District .. and also it's growth as a blue collar settlement ..



Second Presbyterian Church ..
Address: 1936 South Michigan Avenue ..
Completed: 1872-1874: James Renwick
Architect: 1900-1901: Howard Van Doren Shaw ..
Designated a Chicago Landmark: Spetember 28, 1977 ..
Beautiful neo-Gothic style church with great interior decorations ..



Chess Records Office and Studio ..
Address: 2120 South Michigan Avenue
Architects: 1911: Horatio Wilson
1956-57: John S. Townsend Jr. & Jack S. Wiener
Home of Chess Records, which recorded some of the era's most popular blues music .. The Blues Heaven Foundation now operates this building ..

Acquired by Chicago Defender newspaper ...

Quinn Chapel AME Church ..
also known as Quinn Chapel of the A.M.E. Church ..
Address: 2401 South Wabash Avenue ..
Completed: 1892
Architect: Henry F. Starbuck
Chicago's oldest African-American congregation ..
The church was designated a Chicago Landmark on August 3, 1977 ..
and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 4, 1979 ..

Now Trevi Square

In 1996, the building went through major conversion into residential living and has been renamed as Trevi Square ..
