The Rookery: Oriel Staircase [By John Wellborn Root]

Posted on 5:43 AM by babli panday

The Oriel Staircase..
Perhaps one of the most beautiful staircases that I've seen..
Designed by architect John Root. He designed this iron staircase that winds down from floor 12 to 2 and projects into the light well. It has beautiful intricate patterns..

Oriel Staircase..
An oriel staircase juts out from the main wall of the building, but does not reach the ground. Root's oriel staircase, projects into the light-well, but does not reach the ground.

In 1905, William Drummond made a few changes in the light court. He added a staircase that started at the second floor and protruded into the light court.. But beyond that the staircase is pure Root's.
